IC Information;
Character Name; Leonardo
Canon; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_%282012_TV_series%29
Canon Point; Post episode 10 (“Panic in the Sewers”)
Age; 15
House; Heimdall
Power; Energy Lending
Personality; Leonardo is brave, kind, polite, hardworking, honorable, dedicated, and above all, focused; though he also has a tendency to be sanctimonious, bossy, petulant, overbearing and a bit of a nagger. He is the eldest and leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and he takes that role very seriously. On the surface of New York City, he’s always trying to keep his brothers in line, reminding them to stay silent and out of sight even if they’re only up there for recreation. On missions, he’s giving them orders and keeping them focused, reminding them to put the success of the mission above all else (“Keep moving, don’t let ‘em surround you! Failure is not an option!”). And in the Turtle Lair, while he lets his brothers have their down-time, he’s always the first to training, meditation, or to the exit when it’s time for patrol and he gets on his brothers cases if they’re late.
Leo is also completely devoted and loyal to his adopted father and sensei Master Splinter, taking his word as law, though his chivalrous attitude occasionally clashes with Splinter’s lessons of seeking victory before fairness. In the first episode, Leo stops Donatello from leaping from the shadows to rescue April and her father from attacking Kraang because Splinter told them to avoid humans. Whenever a problem comes up that Leonardo can’t solve on his own, he always goes to Splinter even if doing so means revealing to him that they disobeyed an order. While Leo hates to risk incurring his father’s anger, or worse disappointment, he hates the thought of letting an enemy best him or his brothers even more. And he knows Master Splinter will know what to do. In his eyes, Splinter knows everything and can do no wrong. So when the rare occasion comes when Splinter begins to show fear, Leo is completely off balance and unsure of himself.
While Leo takes his role as a leader and a ninja very seriously, he’s still a fifteen year old New Yorker, albeit one who spent his entire life training in the sewers. When he came up to the surface for the first time, he fully drank in the surroundings and ran from sight to sight like a curious cat (“This is so exciting! There could be an adventure around this corner! Or this one! Or this one…. There’s not, but there could be!”). He knows how to have a good time, and frequently goofs around with and teases his brothers (but also encourages them if they need it), makes wisecracks during a fight, loooooves Pizza, and spends most of his free time watching the cartoon show Space Heroes religiously. It’s from that show’s protagonist Captain Ryan that Leo takes his desire to become a great hero and champion of justice. He often quotes the show during missions or times of trouble, adopting a false bass voice when he does so to sound more like the main character. This practice has earned him the nickname ‘hero-boy’ from his brothers (Raphael).
While Leo has the goofiness that comes with being a teenager, he also has the insecurities. Despite the fact that he wants to be both a leader and a hero, he often questions himself, wondering if he has what it takes. While this isn’t a side that he readily shows to anyone other than Splinter, it still exists. It’s part of why he always turns to his father or Space Heroes so often. He doubts himself and relies on trying to emulate his heroes. It’s also why he trains and constantly seeks to improve himself. But as the series progresses, Leo is slowly gaining more confidence in himself and finding his own voice as a leader. However, in the episode ‘Gauntlet’, it got to the point that he and his brothers had gotten too cocky from their string of recent victories and were very violently shaken from their pedestal by the emergence of the Shredder, Splinter’s lifelong nemesis from Japan. After that crushing defeat, Leo was in a paralyzing state of anxiety and fear, though he didn’t show it until he was forced to defend his home from an attack by the Shredder’s henchmen next episode. It was so bad that it took some very VERY begrudging encouragement from Raph to get him back into Leader mode. Now, while Leo still isn’t perfect, he’s at a tentatively happy medium of realizing he’s not invincible but that he has an inner strength as well that he shouldn’t sell short.
And of course, Leo isn’t just duty and insecurity. He has a kind heart and cares deeply for his brothers, even when they (Raphael) drive him nuts. As the oldest, he feels responsibility for them and always puts their safety first. And as a wannabe hero, he always fights to protect innocents, despite knowing that most humans would be terrified of him and his brothers. He also shows mercy to defeated enemies, which puts him at odds with Raphael’s more direct and violent approach to crime fighting. However, Leo knows that he doesn’t want to cross the line between stopping bad guys and killing them. He’ll scare them and beat them until they can’t fight back, but that’s as far as he’ll go. Well… that and slicing up robots and cutting the limbs off giant mutant plants and spiders.
In summary, Leonardo is a warrior who wields his twin katana swords in defense of the innocent. He’s a focused and determined leader with a few insecurities and doubts, and he knows when to defer authority to someone more suited than himself. He’s also a bit of a dork who loves sci-fi, hanging out and goofing off with his friends and family and, of course, eating pizza.

Uh… hey!
[Leo says to the bracelet he’s set on his desk slightly awkwardly. He’s been here for about a month, but he’s still not 100% used to communicating via magic bracelet.]
So I’ve been thinking… I may not like being here, but it looks like the easiest way to go back home is to go along with what the Gods want. Besides, we can’t in good conscience turn our backs on an entire world in trouble! It is our sworn duty to protect and preserve life, not just in our world, but every world!
[He adopts a false deep voice for the last bit of his spiel, totally not quoting the greatest cartoon ever made. Nope.
After a few seconds of silence, he realizes no one can answer him yet and clears his throat awkwardly before continuing.]
Uh, anyway, we bring colour back to the world by just interacting and making friends right? Just by getting to know each other? Well my Sensei once said that the fastest way to know someone is to face them in combat. So…
[He draws out the last word with a grin, like he’s about to say something really good.]
Who’s up for a bit of sparring? You can use any weapon or fighting style you want, the only rules are no powers, wooden weapons only, and no injuries short of a few cuts or bruises.
[He reaches to turn off his bracelet before a thought occurs to him. A very boyish grin comes over his features before continuing.]
And if anyone wants to make it a little more interesting, the loser can buy lunch for the winner. If you’re interested, reply here so we can set up a meet, or wait outside of Heimdall house. And don’t worry about trying to find me. I’ll find you.
